Brie and Justine are MARRIED!

Right before I left for camp, I threw a bridal shower for my friend Brie. Well, this past weekend was her wedding and I couldn't wait to share all the details.

Brie and Justine officially got married in Boston this past January but wanted to commit to each other in front of their friends and family and so they have been working so hard for a year to save and plan for this wedding. I was honored to be standing up there next to Brie as she committed her life to Justine. It was a very special day and everyone there could feel the love they have for each other.

Brie worked very hard on the details for the wedding. Her colors were navy, hot pink, and light blue. Everything coordinated with that preppy, happy vibe. The wedding was at the Ornamental Metal Museum outside on the lawn  - we had the service under the canopy of old oaks and then the reception under a tent right by the river.

Brie made fans for the wedding program:
(beautifully modeled by my friend and blog reader Meredith)

Our dresses were from Low's in Arkansas - navy strapless. Jake was an usher and Brie gave him a bowtie from the Bow Tie Club online:

The flowers were done by L&J productions - everything was gorgeous and fit with her color scheme:
Guests signed a frame copy of their marriage license on the way in:
I got to run around with Brie all day before the wedding.. we started the morning at Bryant's (a Memphis breakfast staple). She got her hair done at Dabble's (shout out to Barbara):
And her makeup done at Hi Gorgeous:
Doesn't she look beautiful?

We had so much fun rocking out after the wedding - everyone loved the food, the music, the company. Here's Justine and Brie towards the end of the night as we were enjoying a river sunset:

Congratulations to two special ladies!!

In all things love and happiness,

Go there (maybe?): Burly's Burgers.

So I guess I got scooped - Jake and I went to the new burger place in the medical center area, Burly's, right before I left for camp and I took pictures with the intention to blog about it. Well, of course, I got busy with camp and didn't blog and then now my favorite blog I Love Memphis posted about it so it isn't new and fresh anymore (or a cool secret but that is ok because I'd like them to stay in  business).

But back to Burly's. We went because we bought a Groupon (love those) and we love a good deal. I'd heard good things about it and wanted to try it out. We parked in the back and walked towards the place - I was thinking "this is SHADY and I wouldn't come at night." We walked up these metal stairs (mental note - don't wear heals, it was a metal grate type staircase) and into the back of the restaurant. I can admit I was a little worried about my car and probably should have parked up front instead.

We sat down - very casual and we were the only people there (granted it was 1pm during the work week). We ordered two Burly burgers and an order of fries. They had all types of fries and we had trouble deciding between the garlic parmesan and the buffalo. Ultimately the buffalo won out and I wish it hadn't. We decided that, while the fries were good, buffalo was not a good description of them. They were more like honey bbq fries than buffalo. (another mental note - get the garlic parmesan next time). The burgers were GOOD though. Really good. I'd eat one again. I'm more a Huey's fan (I've been told these are better and I don't agree but could give them second place in my head) and these are similar in price.

We decided to share a milkshake to finish because I'd read their milkshakes are good. They are made with Blue Bell ice cream (the signs everywhere told me so) and I expected greatness and got mediocrity. It tasted like a Wendy's Frosty but cost much more.

Bottom line? I'd eat there again. I'd get different fries, skip the milkshake (should have for the waistline anyway), and test out one of the specialty burgers. I imagine Jake and his med school friends will go there some because it is walking distance to the med school and their Red Bulls are insanely cheap (hey Burly - good marketing idea, lure them with Red Bull.. you know what med school students like).

So, I say.. go there. Maybe. If you feel like it.

Day excursion, Middle TN style.

So while I'm over here in Middle Tennessee on Monteagle Mountain (also known as the Cumberland Plateau but we can call it what we do...), I decided to take a day trip. I hopped on over to Winchester, TN, which is about a 20 minute drive down the mountain into a cute, small town with its original town square. My destination?

Hammers.
Hammer's is like an outlet store with just the most random things... mostly clothes, some fake flowers, food, home decor, fabric, rugs, and more. It is truly a treasure hunt. Last summer, I hit up the Hammer's in South Pittsburg (another cute town 'round these parts) but this summer I headed down to the Winchester Hammer's to check out their selection. I found quite a few cute pieces of clothing at bargain deals but ultimately left empty-handed, remembering the state of my pocketbook. Alas, no clothing purchased but at least it was a fun experience.

After going to Hammer's, I walked around the square. I have memories of going to this awesome movie theatre with my parents once when we were little:

There were also some antique stores and boutiques around too but I needed to sca-dattle back up the mountain so I passed them up this time.

Coming up for air - hello from camp.

To say I've been busy at camp would be an understatement. It has been a whirlwind of a week and a half - I've only been here 10 days but it feels like a month and yet a day all in one. We've had our staff week, our itty-bitty Pre-Campers, more staff week, and now we're having our 2 day break before all heck breaks loose and the high schoolers come. I, of course, am in the office updating lists and the such but took a break to come up for air and check in over here.

Camp is going well, numbers are good, spirits are high, staff is awesome. I got to sneak in a trip to Knoxville, which of course made me homesick for Ole Rocky Top. As I drove around campus I felt weirdly nostalgic and yet detached from the place that I called home. I calculated and it has been 3 years since I left Knoxville and 4 years since my undergrad days. It doesn't seem that long.

While things are going well here, I sure do miss my guys -

Cheerful greetings.

One of my latest etsy finds is a yarn wreath for the front door. I'd been coveting them for a while and finally took the plunge to buy one. Here she is:
I got it from Cora Anne Designs on etsy. I took brown ribbon and tied it to hang it from my door (I don't have a wreath holder so this works instead). It is a cheerful greeting for my front door - love it.
