Shoe Crisis.

I must state openly and honestly that I have about 30 pairs of shoes. Yes. 30. But of those 30 pairs of shoes, not a one can I feel "hip" wearing with a specific breed of outfit. That breed of outfit I have tried to explain below...

Flats

Tory Burch ballerina flat
$195 - simplysoles.com

TOMS flat shoes
$48 - toms.com

Madewell moccasin shoes
$40 - madewell.com

See, I have plenty of "preppy" fall/winter shoes. I've got boots, I've got moccasins (the Minnetokas I have are knocked off above in the Polyvore), I've got wallabees. What I don't have is a casual flat to replace my flip flops in my daily rotation. In the Polyvore above, I've got three very typical outfits for my fall/winter self - knits, sweaters, and tunics. And I can justify wearing preppy shoes with the far right outfit, but the other two would make me just feel frumpy. So I tried to think of some other shoes I could get - my favorite option is the Tory Burch Reva because it is well made, will last, is cute, and I've heard is comfortable. With a high arch, I need something with support so the Tar-jay $15 route isn't going to work.

Now, on a more realistic note (because $195 is our grocery budget for the month, not our shoe budget), I've been thinking about some TOMS shoes - but here I wonder 1) if I'm "trendy" enough for these and 2) if they provide enough support for my old lady feet over here. And will they make me look more frumpy instead of trendy?

So I am faced with an issue. I need to refresh my shoe collection, pitch a lot of shoes I don't wear, and update my look. Just as a reminder, I am a creature of habit.. I did wear the same pair of sandals every single day this summer (no, really...):
What I need are some shoes that meet all of the following criteria:
1) comfortable
2) flattering
3) versatile
4) don't scream "teacher!!!" like most of my flats
5) cost-efficient (aka I can afford them without eating ramen for a month)

Any ideas? Link me up!!

I've fallen in love with an inanimate object.

Two of my bffs have sectional couches... and as they say, once you go sectional, you can't go back (what, they don't say that?). Ever since lounging on Brie and Beth's respective sectionals, I've had dreams of sectionals dancing in my head.

While we have no money to spare currently and our little loveseat works just fine in the living room, the living room is underutilized and I feel that is because it is just plain uncomfortable. Jake and I can't sit together (well, comfortably that is) and when we have company over we mostly flock to the den. I'd love to see the living room used more for company, away from the tv and general living we do in the den. I also envision cat naps or reading books in the living room (neither happen now). With that in mind, I've created a mood board for the occasion:

Master Bath Dreams.

Since we're going to have to paint the master hallway once we create our "master suite" by closing the doorway, I want the paint to match the bathroom to create a cohesive space. I'd like to ditch the key lime green I've got currently (which I love but doesn't go with the scheme of the bedroom). Combine that with a semi-obsession with these Amy Butler towels I saw at Bed Bath and Beyond and you get the following idea board:

Trip to IKEA.

Since Memphis doesn't have an IKEA, my future trip to Atlanta is going to have to include a trip to the land of build-it-yourself, meatballs, and cheap accessories. In anticipation of this blessed event, I've put together a bit of a list for myself, as to not go overboard. I've been browser-window shopping for a while now and wanted to share some of the things I'd like to scope out:
1. A set of two Norrtorp shelves for above my cute farmhouse style sideboard, which resides in the transitionary area between the den and kitchen.
2. Several things here - the magnetic spice holders are a must (any ideas on how to label them in a cute way?), and you better believe these adorable red and white tins are making their way to my kitchen.
3. I've been longing for the #1 most stereotypical thing in any IKEA kitchen - the bar with the S-hooks that holds, among other things, little white ceramic pots. I plan to get three or so of these bars - two for under the cabinets on one wall, and one to go under the shelves (see #1). I'd like to grow herbs in the white pots.
4. You better believe I'm going to stop and eat some swedish meatballs. Those things are GOOD.
5. I've been lusting after these cupcake handtowels for a while now and I do hope to make them mine.
6. The question is... Orange or Black? In our office (see sidebar), we've got tan walls, lots of wood and black accents, an orange futon, and orange/turquoise/lime as the pops of color. Safe with black, or fun with orange?

Ode to Kate Spade.

Recently, my friend Hilary blogged about her love of Kate Spade. It brought up reminders of kate spade's cool factor in middle school/high school - you weren't anyone unless you carried a ks purse. When I started looking at china for our wedding registry, I discovered ks has other beauties - dishes included. What I love most about kate spade is the use of bright color. I love bright colors - especially I love her use of oranges, pinks, and greens (my favorites).

I put together a little mashup of my favorite kate spade things lately. I especially love:
1. this lovely dotted purse
2. the jeweled bracelet
3. correspondence cards - nothing like a good post mailed note
4. the purple/red/bow/large tote -ness of this bag
5. these super cute pieces of china, which is my favorite of her products

This one's for Heather...

My friend Heather and I were talking over the weekend about the expense involved in buying throw pillows. I mean, a cute throw pillow can run you 40-60$ and that is at Pier One. Don't even get me started on other places! For example, I'm digging on this dog pillow but the dude runs about $110. No thanks..

Well, so with my new best friend website Polyvore, I took some cute pillow options from Wal-Mart and Target and created a mood-board-thingy for you all to see that pillows CAN be cute and cheap!
