Where's the grass?

Before we moved in, the woman that lived here used a lawn service. She was an avid gardener (at one time, at least) and there was a lot of grass, even when we moved in. Well something happened once we moved in. I'm not exactly a master gardener and I kept promising Beamer and Sebastian they'd get grass for their backyard. 

Well, it's May and here's what we have:
