Our New Year's Eve Celebrations

Jake and I rang in the New Year with a quiet fun evening at home with ten of our close friends. The past nine years I have spent New Year's Eve up on the mountain at Winterfest and spending the night at home this year just seemed a bit odd. Yet in hosting my own little party, I felt that I honored the end of the year justly, even if I wasn't celebrating a Eucharist, participating in a silent supper, passing the candle, or having a blow out dance.

Since UT was playing basketball at 3 and football at 7, we told people to come over whenever to watch whichever games they wanted. Even without cable, we were able to watch both games with no flaws. Oh and did you hear? UT beat Memphis:) Just saying...

Of course, UT didn't fare as well in football against Virginia Tech... Here's Beamer's reaction to the interception during the first half:

On to the details - I wanted to provide food for my guests without spending all day slaving in the kitchen. Here's my menu for NYE2009:

- Pretzels and Rotel Cheese Dip (an homage to Flying Saucer)
- Edamame and Toasted Sesame Vinaigrette Dressing
- Baked Brie with Carr's Crackers
- Cheese and Sausage Tray
- Fried Pickles
- BBQ (smoked by Jake in his smoker Christmas present)
- Oreo & Cheesecake Jello cupcakes

In addition, my friends brought some goodies as well, including Italian spinach, shrimp, peanut brittle, and cookies.

And what NYE isn't all about the outfit? With my friends Eric and Beth in town earlier, we took a trip to the 75% off rack at Macy's where I scored this dress from INC, marked down from $65 to $25. I put brown leggings and my cowboy boots with it.

I hope that your New Year's Eve involved good friends, good food, and laughter like mine did. I was able to reflect a little bit on the past year and can't imagine how 2010 could be any better than 2009. Jake said it best when he said "it will be hard to beat 2009." Having celebrated our wedding in 2009 and buying our first home, it will always be a special year for us but I can't wait to see what 2010 brings!
